Your New Favorite Song Is Headed To 89.1

It is time once again to expand your (and our) musical library. New and "new to you" music alike are joining our rotation this week.

We'll start with the 24-year old out of Beckenham, South London whose track has recently blown up on TikTok, Lola Young and her 2024 track Messy.

Lola Young - Messy

Young's single Messy, while released in May of last year, made its way across TikTok around October and has been trending ever since. Some users on the popular short-form app cite that the song elicits a feeling of "female rage" and "what it feels like to be the oldest daughter." Other users likened the spirit of the song to other artists such as Chappell Roan and Paris Paloma.

Young alluded to feeling behind her discography in her Spotify biography:

"Music is everything to me, helps me try and make sense of myself and the world around to me...I figure out my heart and mind through poetry, and melody."

The popular track is now in our music rotation and of course available on all streaming platforms. Next, a track from an artist on the opposite side of London, it's Champagne from the talented Declan McKenna.

Declan mCKenna - Champagne

McKenna has been creating music since 2014 and has become a staple in the Indie Pop genre. His latest release, Champagne, came in late October of 2024. The song was dropped alongside a music video, which featured McKenna working as a cook in a '50s style diner.

Many speculate the overarching theme of the video and the track itself is McKenna celebrating his newfound status as an independent artist. Previously, McKenna was under contract with Columbia Records.

McKenna spoke on his independent status through an announcement on social media in a mock newspaper titled The Cheshunt Chronicles:

"I agreed to make three albums with the label and so I made three albums."

The post was in good fun and pointed to a simple change in direction for the indie artist from his three prior studio albums. Champagne was also released alongside That's Life, so an EP of sorts rather than a standalone track.

The two songs are available on all streaming platforms and Champagne can be heard across the 89.1 airspace, so keep an eye (and an ear or two) on the station. Finally, a band gearing up for an international tour and hot off a brand new album, Dylan Minnette and Wallows found time to release Your New Favorite Song.

Wallows - Your New Favorite Song

A bit of a technicality, but we are telling the truth. Your New Favorite Song is now in our rotation. Wallows announced the track via Instagram earlier this month and it was released three days later on January 10th.

The song has been received well and is making waves as a trend on TikTok . Users will post a picture of themselves with the captioned lyric "Turn it up" followed by another image listing their favorite songs captioned "This is my favorite song."

Listen to the track with the Spotify link above and hear it throughout the day on our station as well. Also, be sure to look at the following tour dates if a Wallows live performance has been on your radar. Tickets are also available here.
