bands/artists Who were snubbed in this year's Grammy Awards

There has been a lot of backlash (no surprise) in regard to the 2025 Grammy Awards.

Namely, Beyoncé winning both album and country album of the year struck a nerve with a lot of people. Ultimately, it is up to The Academy to decide these awards.

There are some that believe the awards should be fan-voted, but that is an entirely different discussion.

For now, let's discuss the alternative side of these awards and what might have gone differently.

(This is entirely subjective.)

Best Alternative Music Album/ Performance Award

Winner: St. Vincent - Flea, All born Screaming

In the world of alternative, the band St. Vincent came away with awards for both Alternative Music Album of the Year and Alternative Music Performance of the Year, as well as Best Rock Song.

Annie Clark is a tremendously talented artist, but personally the album All Born Screaming didn't really resonate with me. Tracks "Hell Is Near" and "Big Time Nothing" are the only songs I really enjoyed on the album.

St. Vincent won Alt Music Performance of The Year for their song "Flea" off of the same album noted above.

SNUBs: Clairo/Cage The Elephant

I believe Clairo's Charm deserved the award for Alternative Music Album of the Year. It was Claire Cottrill's first Grammy nomination and would have been a staple moment for an artist that's been at the forefront of the indie and bedroom pop music scene since 2019. For an artist with over 19 million listeners on Spotify to have not yet won a Grammy is a disservice.

Regarding Alternative Music Performance of the Year, Cage The Elephant's "Neon Pill" deserved the award over St. Vincent's "Flea". The song was written by lead singer Matt Shultz regarding his psychosis as a result of ADHD medication and how it ruined him before turning things around and getting his life back on track.

It was also the first time the band had released music since 2019 and would have only amplified a symbolic return for the band that's been a cornerstone of alternative music for years.

Biased is probably the right word, but I wholeheartedly thought "Neon Pill" was a shoe in.

Best Rock Album Award

Winner: The Rolling Stones - Hackney Diamonds

It is commonly accepted that when it comes to the rock genre, this awards show has missed the mark for the last few decades. That trend continues with the shell of legendary rock band The Rolling Stones winning this year's Best Rock Album of the Year award.

The sentiment is shared within the rock subreddit r/rock:

Some users in the thread state "Jack White's new album was right there!" while others simply said to pay the awards show no mind. More users in the thread pointed to rock legend Eddie Vedder and the 90s grunge movement as the catalyst for the genre's lack of recognition at the awards ceremony.

SNUBs: Everyone Else Nominated

For this category, it's a safe assumption that anyone but The Rolling Stones should have won this award. Most agree that the band's latest album Hackney Diamonds was a far cry from what the band has made in the past.

Other nominations for the award included:

Blinded by legacy, The Academy missed the mark once again.

There were several other awards from different genres that left many scratching their head, but that's out of our jurisdiction.

What were your thoughts on the 2025 Grammy Awards?

Again, this was all purely subjective. Do you agree with my thoughts above? Who do you believe was snubbed in this year's award ceremony? Let us know, we'd love to hear what you think!
